Understanding of Chakras

Physical and mental well being has always been an integral part of our lifestyle. Right from the very beginning we are taught that proper sleep is very important for our brain and routine exercise for our body. But neither do we pay attention on well being of our soul nor are we taught about it in our schools. Just like our physical body has different parts which need to be taken care of the same way our spiritual body has energy points known as chakras. Chakra is basically a Sanskrit word which means wheel. They are thought to be spinning disks in our body that should stay opened and aligned as they correspond to bundle of nerves , major organs and areas of energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well being.

Understanding about Chakras was one of the basic and starting lessons that I learnt once I started meditating regularly. First and foremost goal of meditation is to open and balance our chakras as every physical and emotional healing starts by healing chakras related to them . Though science states that there are a total of 114 chakras in our body but out of these there are 7 major chakras that run along our spine. Imbalance of any of theses causes physical as well as emotional issues.

The first chakra is located in the base of the spine in the tailbone area known as Root or Muladhara chakra which is represented by Red colour. Second chakra is located above the pubic bone below the navel represented by orange colour and is known as Sacral or Svadishthana chakra . Solar plexus being the third also known as Manipura located from navel to about the rib cage and is represented by yellow colour. Fourth chakra the one that connects the upper and the lower chakras represented by green or pink color is the Heart or the Anhata chakra located the the center of the chest. Next being the throat or the Vishuddha chakra represented by blue color. After throat comes the Third eye or the Ajna chakra located between the eyebrows and Indigo being its colour. The last and the top most being the Crown or the Sahasrara Chakra with violet being its colour and is located at the crown of the head.

Out of all the seven chakras the lower three are the ones that connect us to materialistic world and the upper three are the ones that connect us to spiritual world with Heart chakra connecting the upper and the lower ones. There is a vast and deep study related to chakras and all that I have shared is just a basic explanation to what exactly chakras are.

"The key to meditation is focusing on specific symbol.

These symbols are the chakras"
